Northern Mallorca
Pollença
At the northern end
of Mallorca, around 30 kilometres from Palma, is Pollença. This
historic old town is a great base for exploring this end of
Mallorca. Halfway between Soller and Pollença is one of the
Island’s most famous sights – the Monastery of Lluc – with its
imposing Baroque architecture.
Hotel Desbrull
Open in 2003, this small hotel has a light modern interior. There
are just six double rooms at Desbrull, all with a bathroom,

L’Hostal
Situated next to the main square in Pollença, L’Hostal is a small
family run B&B. The guesthouse’s six modern rooms all have en-suite
facilities, air conditioning and satellite TV. The atmosphere is

Hotel Juma
Located in the main town square – the Plaça Major – is the charming,
three star Hotel Juma. This 1907 stone house has been refurbished
to create a delightful hotel. The rooms are traditional Mallorcan
in style and are all well-appointed - the better ones come with a
balcony. On the ground floor there is a cafe with tables out into
the square where you can get a drink and some tapas. Breakfast is

Posada de Lluc
This hotel opened
in 2002, although the building itself is much older. Originally a
sanctuary for monks, the building dates back to 1459. In the 20th
century it became privately owned. Today, the careful restoration
of Posada de Lluc has created a lovely, welcoming hotel. Antiques
and traditional Mallorcan furniture are carefully placed around the
hotel and give it an historic atmosphere.
There are only
eight en-suite double rooms at Posada de Lluc, but they are all well
furnished and spacious. Some of the rooms have their own terrace.
Outside there is a small pool and a patio, where you can soak up the
sun or cool down in the shade. You’ll find board games in the
central lounge, as well as wireless internet access. Closed
November to March.

Hotel Son Sant
Jordi
Not far from Plaça Major is the luxurious Hotel Son Sant Jordi,
located in the picturesque Sant Jordi square. This beautiful little
hotel was originally a 19th century mansion. Today,
following careful restoration, it provides elegant and refined
accommodation in grand surroundings.
Here you will find
eight spacious, well-appointed rooms decked out with billowing
drapes and traditional Mallorcan furniture – as well as the odd four
posted bed. There is a pool in the garden surrounded by a lawn
and well-tended garden. The á la carte restaurant serves
Mediterranean cuisine, in addition to a hearty buffet breakfast.
The hotel has two bicycles available to its guests, as well as a
three person kayak down in the Port of Pollença.

Port de Pollença
Located in the Bay
of Pollença, this coastal town is around five kilometres away from
the town of Pollença. In recent years, the port has established
itself as a popular resort, especially for family. Its appeal is no
doubt due to its long sandy beach and calm bay waters - making it a
haven for swimmers.
Hostal Bahia
Close to the centre
of town, and right on the beach, is the Hostal Bahia. Converted
from a 19 century summer-house, Hostal Bahia is now welcoming,
agreeable place. In 2004 the hotel was modernised and now offers
pleasant, unfussy accommodation. All 30 of its rooms come with air
conditioning and satellite TV.
The beach-side
restaurant at Hostal Bahia is well known for its delicious fish
specialities. There is also a bar where breakfast is served, as
well as drinks and snacks. Closed November to March.

Hotel Can Llenaire
Located atop a
small hill, with spectacular views of the Bay of Pollença, is the
impressive Hotel Can Llenaire. Converted from an old Mallorcan
manor, this hotel has kept much of its original charm and ambience.
Today it is a refined and elegant place. All 11 of its spacious
rooms are well equipped and furnished in grand Mallorcan style.
Breakfast (included
with your room) is served in the old dining room. The á la carte
restaurant uses fresh produce from the estate and has a good wine
cellar.
The facilities at
Hotel Can LLenaire are good with an outdoor pool and terrace, as
well as a sauna and a tennis court. The extensive grounds are a
great place to stroll around – you may even see some sheep grazing
surrounding estate. There are lots of activities nearby including
sailing, windsurfing, golf and horse riding.

Hotel Dania
The three star
Hotel Dania is a modern seven story high-rise hotel right on the
beach. The hotel is most noted for its amazing salt-water pool
which jets out across the beach and into the water. All 67 twin
bedded rooms are all well equipped with modern furnishing and all
mod cons. The better rooms have a balcony where you can look out
over the marina and the Bay of Pollença.
The restaurant
serves a buffet breakfast and dinner in the evening. There is also
a snack bar where you can pick up a quick bite to eat. If you can’t
tear yourself away from the pool there is poolside bar. Closed

Hotel Pollentia
Another three star
hotel with a privileged beachfront location is the Hotel Pollentia.
Built in the 1950, this four story hotel stretches down the edge of
the beach, making the most of its prime position. Most of the rooms
have two modern twin beds and come with a bathroom, air conditioning
and satellite TV. They are decorated in modern Mallorcan style. It
is better to pay a bit more and get a room with a balcony
overlooking the Bay.
Breakfast is served
in the hotel restaurant. In the evening the restaurant offers a
buffet of Mallorcan specialities. The bar on the ground floor has a
terrace with great views out over the Bay of Pollença. Twice a week
there is live music in the bar. Guests at the Hotel Pollentia can
use the pool and tennis court of the neighbouring Hotel Ural. Close
in November and December.

Hotel Illa d’Or
Hotel Illa d’Or was
built in the 1920s and is classically Spanish in style. Well
positioned right on the waterfront, the hotel offers four star
luxury to its guests. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable,
and include nice touches such as a bathrobe. Accommodation ranges
from a single room to a suite with a balcony and wonderful views of
the bay.

Hotel Miramar
Another beach front
property, the Hotel Miramar is one of the oldest hotels on
Mallorca. Built in 1912, by the Sastre family, it has been run by
them ever since. This agreeable three star hotel, offers good
seaside accommodation in traditional Mallorcan style. All of the
rooms have a bathroom and air conditioning - just be sure to ask for
a room with a sea view to make the most of your stay.
The hotel has a
buffet breakfast, which is included with your room. Or, if you
prefer, you can ask for a continental breakfast to be delivered to

Platja de Formentor
One of the most
scenic areas of Mallorca is the wild and rugged Formentor
Peninsula. A highlight of the peninsula is the Platja de Formentor
– a beautiful narrow beach with pine trees and distant views of the
mountains.

in the company’s crown. Set in a 1,200 hector estate, Hotel
Formentor offers elegant accommodation with excellent facilities and

There are three
Mediterranean restaurants to choose from at Hotel Formentor. The
Platja Mar has a buffet lunch in the summer months and an á la carte
menu for the rest of the year. El Pi – open on the summer months -
offers an á la carte menu. El Colomer is open year round and serves
breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Alcúdia
On a little
peninsula between the Bays of Alcúdia and Pollença is the historic
town of Alcúdia. In roman times this town was the capital of
Mallorca. Today it is a popular resort area, as people are drawn to
its long sandy beach and sheltered waters. The large open-air
market on Tuesdays and Sundays is thought to be the biggest on the
island.
La Fonda Llabres
This reasonably
priced guesthouse is right in the centre of Alcúdia’s historic old
town. It is very near the main shopping street and the market.
Renovated just a few years ago, La Fonda Llabres has around 20 rooms
- both singles and doubles - some with en-suite facilities. All
rooms have air conditioning, heating and a TV. There is a bar/cafe
on the ground floor which offers a standard Spanish and Mallorcan
menu. There are tables outside in the plaza if you want to eat al
fresco. Closed November to April.

Hotel Ca’n Simo
This charming
little hotel offers four star luxury in the middle of town. The
careful renovation of this old stone building has created a tasteful
blend of traditional Mallorcan design with all the modern comforts
expected of a four star hotel. Exposed stone walls and wooden beam
give the hotel an historic appeal. The furnishings, though not
antique, are traditional and create an atmosphere of period charm.

Port de Alcúdia
Some two kilometres south of Alcúdia is its port, one of the biggest

modern L-shaped complex right on the beach. There are nearly 500
well equipped modern double rooms in this three star hotel. Most of
the rooms have a sea view and the superior rooms come with a

kilometres south of Port de Alcúdia - on the beautiful Playa de Muro
