Noted as a playground for the rich and famous, Palma de Mallorca is a sensational mix of the old and the new. Convent de la Missió

Hidden away in Palma’s in the narrow cobbled streets that makes up Palma’s old town is the Convent se la Missió . This old 17th century monastery is an unlike setting for one of Palma’s most desirable hotels, but the Convent de la Missió is full of surprises. Its sleek, minimalist interior is very a chic. The stylish re-furbishment has made clever use of the ex-convent’s interior. Indeed, the old refractory has been transformed into a smart art gallery.

Sol Melia

There are two hotels from the luxurious Sol Melia chain that we would recommend for your stay in Palma: Gran Melí a Victoria and Tyrp Bellver. Both are in the prestigious Paseo Maritimo (waterfront promenade) area of Palma.

Gran Melía Victoria Hotel

The luxurious, five star Gran Melía Victoria Hotel faces the marina and has outstanding views over the Badia de Palma (the Bay of Palma). From here it is only a short walk to the cathedral and the old town.

Most of the hotel’s 171 well appointed rooms have sea views. There are six suites and five junior suites available, should you require larger accommodation. There are several bars and restaurants to choose from at the Gran Melí a Victoria, the most impressive of which is the terraced restaurant ( Restaurant la Terraza de Victoria). Open during the summer months, here you can enjoy a romantic meal al fresco. If you are too tried to eat out, the hotel also has room service. There are two pools - a smaller heated one indoors and larger outside pool, which overlooks the marina. For those interested in golf, the hotel offers special discounts on green fees at up to five local courses all of which are less than 20 kms away.

Tyrp Bellver

Around the corner from the Gran Melí a Victoria is its sister, the four star Tyrp Bellver. This high-rise hotel is right on the waterfront and has panoramic views Palma and the seafront. Yet, it is only 1km from the old town so it is near to all of Palma most popular sights. And, the Type Bellver is on the Paseo Maritimo, noted for its excellent bars and restaurants.

Popular with business travellers, the Tyrp Bellver Hotel has 381 rooms (20 premium rooms) . The hotels has a bar and a restaurant. There is also a snack bar where you can eat on the terrace. The smallish pool is surrounded by a sun deck and palm trees, making is a great place to soak up the sun and relax.

Palacio ca sa Galesa

Set amongst the narrow, winding streets that make up Palma’s old town is the Palacio ca sa Galesa. This delightfully refurbished 16th century palace offer sumptuous accommodation. Interestingly, the Palacio ca sa Galesa was the first to re-furbish an old palace into a plush hotel - an approach that has become increasing popular in Palma.

Decorated in traditional Mallorca style this appealing hotel has some wonderful features such as a library with a fireplace or a bar decorated with 17th antiques. Originally a roman bath, the indoor swimming pool is the only one in the old town. Facilities also include a gym, sauna and sun terrace - complete with hammocks.

There are just 12 rooms at the Palacio ca sa Galesa (seven suites and five doubles). All rooms have king size beds and have been individually decorated creating a wonderful ambience and utterly charming hotel. Breakfast is available in the big hall (“El Café Ricks“) or can be delivered to your room. There’s no restaurant at the hotel, but as it is in the old town (noted for its excellent bars and restaurants) finding a good meal will not be difficult.

Hotel Portixol

One of the best designed hotels in Palma, this small, exclusive hotel successfully combines the old and the new to create a very chic, yet comfortable hotel. The clever blend of simple Scandinavian styling and Mediterranean colours make for a stunning hotel. Located in near the old fishing port, the historic centre of Palma and the cathedral are an easy walk away.

The Portixol’s light and spacious rooms are well designed. All most of them have a sea views and many have a private terrace. Puro Oasis Urbano

A former 14th century palace, the newly developed Puro Oasis Urbano in Palma’s old town is perhaps the trendiest place to stay in the Mallorca capital.
