Soller
The rugged Serra de Tramuntana mountain range is in north western
Mallorca. Halfway down the mountain range is the old town of Soller
- an enchanting place to stay while exploring this region of
Mallorca. As you may expect, trekking in the mountains is popular
and there are some great mountain trails. Perhaps the best thing
about Soller is the scenic narrow gauge wooden railway that runs
from Palma to Soller – an ideal way to arrive in this quaint little
town.
Casa Bougainvillea
A picturesque little B & B, Casa Bougainvillea is a traditional
Soller townhouse – complete with green shutters. Set over three
floors all of the rooms (some single and doubles) have en-suite
facilities and fantastic views of the Serra de Tramuntana. They are
simply decorated yet comfortable, with a cool airy feel. Located on
one of the most popular streets in Soller you’ll find cafes and
tapas bars nearby.

Hotel Ca’l Bisbe
Initially a grand house (belonging to a Bishop) this place has been
sensitively transformed into a pleasant hotel, retaining much of the
building’s original character. The four star Hotel Ca’Bisbe has 25
rooms most of which have balconies. The painted white rooms and
exposed wooden beams give the Ca’l Bisbe a traditional feel. The
rooms have all the modern conveniences you’d expect from a four star
hotel. Plus, there is a large outdoor pool and sun bathing area, as
well as bar and central lounge to relax in.

Hotel Ca’s Xorc
Some five kilometres out of town is the fabulous Hotel Ca’s Xorc.
Once a finca (oil mill) this 200 year old building has been
sensitively restored to create an exclusive, chic hotel. The
interior has sleek modern lines and refined ambience set against the
antiquity of the building. There are just 12 rooms - each has been
individually furnished to produce a tranquil haven. The beautiful
garden and olive groves create a relaxed peaceful setting in the
mountains. There is an outdoor pool and terrace with great view of
the valley.
Without a doubt the best thing about Ca’s Xorc is its restaurant.
The food is a variation on traditional Mallorcan dishes and is
simply wonderful. In keeping with food trends, head chef Guillermo
Maya Igarza, has created a special six course tasting menu to tempt
you. The wine list is equally impressive. Reservations are a must at
the restaurant.

Hotel Salvia
Yet another grand house turned luxury hotel, the Hotel Salvia
manages this transformation with great aplomb. The smell of citrus
trees and jasmine fills the air in the gardens around the hotel. The
interior has been carefully restored in keeping with its original
style. The use of Mediterranean colours and traditional Mallorcan
decor and antique furniture further enhances its tranquil ambience.
There are only six rooms at the Salvia (two standard doubles, two
superior doubles and two suites) and all are well appointed and
spacious. Plus, all of the rooms have excellent views out over the
valley. Facilities at the hotel are limited but the staff will help
you to organise any number of outdoor pursuits – from a boating
excursion to golf, or even mountain trekking and cycling. There are
no facilities for children under 14.

Fornalutx Recommended Hotels
Often referred to as the ‘prettiest village on the island’ Fornalutx
nestles gently into the mountains and is surrounded by orange and
olive groves. The village has a commanding view of Cerra de Cuber,
the tallest peak in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.
Fornalutx is within easy walking distance of Soller and is a good
base to explore the nearby mountains.
Fornalutx Petit Hotel
The well preserved village of Fornalutux, with its winding cobble
streets, is home to the lovely Fornalutx Petit Hotel. This stone
building was originally a convent and then a school. Today it has
been successfully transformed into a comfortable little hotel. With
just eight pretty rooms, this is a quaint comfortable hotel. The old
chapel has been turned into a lovely suite with its own terrace.
Breakfast is served in the dining room or during the warmer months
on the terrace, with its commanding views of the valley. In the
terraced garden you’ll find a small pool and a Jacuzzi.

Hotel Can Reus
This charming rural hotel offer its visitors warm hospitality from
its British owners, Sue and Nick Guthie. The name Reus, is that of a
wealthy family which once owned the mansion. The family made its
money importing oranges to Franc, and a Parisian feel is still
evident in the hotel’s decor today. The owners have worked hard to
preserve the house’s unique character. Lovely and peaceful, Hotel
Can Reus is great for both those who want to trek through the
mountains and for those who want nothing more than to relax
poolside.
All eight rooms are well appointed and comfortable. There is an
outdoor pool in the garden. A hearty breakfast sets you up for a
day’s trekking in the mountains. In the evening, you can relax over
a delightful candle light dinner. Please note that the hotel does
not cater to children under five.

Ca’n Verdera
The last of our recommendations for Fornalutx, Ca’n Verdera is a
stunning mix of the old and the new. This 150 year old building has
been transformed into a plush, modern hotel merging modern design
with comfort and pleasure. Pieces of modern art are exhibited
throughout the hotel and in its art gallery – a good contrast to the
building’s ancient Mallorcan architecture. Rest and relaxation are
what the hotel aims to give its guests – and it certainly achieves
it in this tranquil haven.
There are 11 rooms to choose from including a penthouse suite. All
are well appointed and tastefully decorated. Outside you’ll find a
Moorish patio to relax on in the shade of the palm trees. Further
down the terraced gardens there is a pool. The restaurant has
Mediterranean cuisine and uses fresh local ingredients. The wine
list includes some rare Mallorcan selections, giving you a chance to
try something new. You can dine either indoors or out on the terrace
with its great views of the valley.

Hotel Es Port
Once a 17th century fortified mansion, the Hotel Es Port provides

and unwind. Hotel rooms are traditional with wooden furniture and
white walls, giving them a light airy feel.
The facilities at Hotel Es Port are great and include a patio and
large outdoor pool with a splash pool for children. Indoors there is
a gym and a salt-water pool which is used for hydro-therapy. Tennis
lovers will be pleased to know that the hotel has three courts (one
clay) and you can borrow rackets and balls free of change. If
mountain biking is more your thing, you can rent these from the
