Southern Mallorca
Heading east of
Palma you come to the flat fertile region of Es Pla - once the
breadbasket of Mallorca. Today the region is still mainly
agricultural though its importance has diminished as the island’s
main industry has changed from agriculture to tourism. If you want
to experience the true Mallorca you may want to visit this area as
it has been left generally undeveloped.
Binissalem
Around 25
kilometres east of Palma is the small town of Binissalem. Known for
its vineyards and beautiful 17th and 18th
century buildings, this pretty little town is home to one of
Mallorca’s best hotels.
Scotts Hotel
Located right in
the middle of town, Scotts Hotel offers unparalleled comfort. The
tasteful renovation of this 18th century townhouse has
created an elegant, comfortable and relaxing hotel. The old stone
building with its high ceiling and classical architecture, as well
as the elegant furnishing and selected antiques give Scotts a
luxurious and refined ambience. Here the emphasis is squarely
placed on comfort, relaxation and service.
There are 17
spacious rooms at Scotts, including five suites and one junior
suite. All the rooms are en-suite with air conditioning, heating
and top of the range bedding. Individually styled to make the most
of their character some of the rooms are elegant and formal, some
are rural and floral, and others are slightly modern. However, all
of the rooms are handsome and provide a comfortable, relaxing haven.
Facilities at
Scotts Hotel include a non-chlorine indoor spa pool with a Jacuzzi.
The pool has a swim jet, if you want a bit of exercise. For
relaxing indoors try the library, bar or sitting room. Outside
you’ll find two lovely terraces, as well as a central courtyard.
Breakfast is served
both indoors and outside, and its available until noon if you want
to sleep in. There are several places to eat within walking
distance of the hotel - more are a brief drive away. The staff at
Scotts will be happy to give you guidance on where to dine.

Binibona, as the hotel isn’t very near to Inca]
Binibona
Binibona is set on
the eastern foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains and is a
picturesque little village. It is about eight kilometres from Inca,
Mallorca’s third largest town.
Finca Es Castell
Surrounded by
olive, citrus and fig trees, Finca Es Castell has been voted one of
the prettiest hotels on Mallorca. Located on a 750 acre farm,
parts of this agroturismo/hotel date back to the 11th
century. And through careful renovation, this ancient finca has
been successfully transformed into a charming hotel. There are 11
well-appointed double rooms and one junior suite at El Castell. All
of them have been tastefully decorated in Mallorcan style to give a
calm cool atmosphere.
Outside you’ll find
several terraces dotted around the gardens, as well as a large
pool. The hotel’s restaurant uses only home or locally grown
produce, and the mainly Mallorcan and Italian menu changes daily
depending upon what is available.

Hotel Son Cleda
Located in an old
stone townhouse not far from the main square in Sineu is the Hotel
Son Cleda. This small hotel has just eight rooms all of which have
satellite TV, air conditioning, heating and a mini-bar. The better
rooms have a full bathroom. Decorated with a modern take on
traditional Spanish furniture the hotel has a relaxed cosy

specialities, to vegetarian and Italian. The menu changes weekly to
reflect what is in season. With a bit of warning, the restaurant

the ground floor is a great place to sit with a drink and has live
music once a week. For those interested in outdoor pursuits the

the south-east coast is the tiny hamlet of Randa. From here, you

Hotel Sant Salvador
A former grand
mansion, Hotel Sant Salvador is now a magnificent eight-roomed
luxury hotel. The stunning and unusually designed building provides
a unique backdrop for this splendid hotel. Each of the eight double
rooms has been individually decorated to make the most of their
character. They come with all mod cons and many of them have a
balcony or private terrace. The rooms’ decor uses vibrant colours
and a mix of traditional or modern styling - the result is an
impressive hotel.
If you want a
cooling dip from the heat of the day, you’ll find a good-sized pool
out in the garden. If golf is more your thing, there are several
